Mark your calendars! Cote D’Ivoire , the world’s largest producer of Cocoa was able to avoid civil war and genocide  in September 2002 due to his strong Diverse culture and immigration.  Togetherness and hope is the new mantra for every Ivorian across the globe.  In the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire , there are more than 60 ethnic groups speaking over 200 languages.  Much like New York City .   For all their similarities, little is known of this emerging African nation, but on Saturday, September 13, 2008 New Yorkers will have the opportunity to live, eat and enjoy the fascinating culture of at the first ” Cote D’Ivoire Diversity Day”. 

The public will be able to learn the music, language and dance of Cote D’Ivoire , as well as participate in ancestry wood demonstrations, visual performances, arts and crafts and storytelling.  Sponsored by natives of Cote d’Ivoire living in New York City , festival promoters are hoping to create a cross-cultural appreciation and understanding of  Cote D’Ivoire and bring ethnic groups from all continents together for a day of peace and fun!  

A highlight of the festival, guests will be able to walk down the ‘Orange Carpet” to visit the  members of the Royal Family and VIP guests  in their traditional dress.  The sounds of Cote D’Ivoire Traditional Drummers will play outside this unique area. The Orange Carpet represents ‘peace’ and is one of  three colors of the Cote D’Ivorie flag.

 

Other Festival Highlight includes:

Live Music: African drumming, Cote d’Ivoire jazz, traditional music, folk music, religious, and gospel music will be part of the stage performance. LL Cool J * Robert ‘Kool’ Bell * Balozy Harvey * Issach de Bamkole * Drogba Didier And The Royal Family of Cote D’Ivoire

Dance: Traditional and ceremonial dance, as well as urban fusion dance from Cote d’Ivoire . . Dance instruction in Poroh, Adjoss, Ziblibity and zouglou will be offered.

Arts & Crafts: Exhibition of Cote d’Ivoire Arts, Crafts Photograph and painting

Food Court: More than 100 varieties of Native Ivorian food, will be served and presented.

Children’s Zone: Crafts, Face Painting, games, Music, and Storytelling new additions to the festival.

RCI Diversity & Education Hall: Cote d’Ivoire Cultural Heritage, patrimony and exchange hosted by Operation Hope  http://www.operationhope.org.
