Levern Williams, a versatile performing artist/Jazz stylist; has been compared to Nat King Cole by critics; “Levern flaunts a unique, exuberant style that is undoubtedly his own”, they added.

Levern’s performance repertoire includes: film (Cotton Club, Times Square, and The Wiz); Broadway (Tremonisha -Scott Joplin, Selma and Camoflague); and has toured internationally with stops in Western Africa (inter- continental Hotels); Paris, France (Inter-continental Hotels); South America, México, Panamá and Brazil.

Ex-Klan Chief Freed After Arrest In Praque

A former US Ku Klux Klan chief arrested here on a speaking tour was freed during the night but will be forced to leave the country later Saturday, Czech police said.

David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the Louisiana-founded Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, arrived in Prague on Friday at the invitation of a local far-right group, Narodni Odpor (National Resistance).

The 59-year-old US citizen had been due to give three lectures in Prague and Brno in the east of the country and present the Czech translation of his 1998 book “My Awakening.”

GESTURES Dance Ensemble Celebrating 20 Years

Every Friday afternoon after a long week, eight young people from very disparate backgrounds meet in a dance studio in East Harlem bound together by their shared passion for dance and the knowledge that they are part of a 20 year tradition.

BET To Launch New Centric Channel

A rush to grab more ethnic viewers has Viacom’s MTV Networks looking to launch a new, older Afro-American-targeted network called Centric. Company officials say it will launch this October with 45 million subscribers, one of the bigger launches for a cable network in recent years.

Centric would complement Viacom’s venerable BET channel, which goes into 89 million homes and skews mostly to younger Afro-American viewers, in the 18-34 and 18-49 demographics.

In part, Centric intends to compete with TV One, the Comcast/Radio One-owned network, which targets 25-to-54 African-American viewers and reaches 47 million subscribers. As Viacom considered this target demo for Centric, it realized that “a perfect example would be” Barack and Michelle Obama, Scott Mills, the president of BET told The New York Times.
