Remember the Gilded Rage

Vanderbilt-Worthy Victuals

A gilded gal has to eat, and Blantyre is the place to make up for all those nights of Ramen. Dinner guests are greeted by staff in lace pinafores in front of a stoked fire, stocked bar, and fancy finger food, before being escorted into a gastronomic wonderland reimagined seasonally by celebrated chef Christopher Brooks.

Because sometimes life tastes better on a silver spoon — even if it’s a demitasse and not a ladle.

Gandolfini’s Salami Surprise for Rev. Al

The Rev. Al Sharpton bumped into James Gandolfini in the elevator on his way to Def Jam/Island mogul L.A. Reid‘s apartment the other night, and the two — who had never met before — had a quick chat. The next day, when Sharpton arrived at his Harlem office, a three-pound salami was waiting with a nice card from the “God of Carnage” star. The bombastic provocateur was said to be mulling how to reciprocate and had rejected the idea of sending Gandolfini some soul food from Sylvia’s as too obvious. Sharpton was leaning toward an album of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits.

LIB/BLS Former Directors Sues sutton

An award-winning radio reporter is causing static for the media empire owned by Harlem big shot Percy Sutton.

Wayne Gillman, former news director at black-oriented WLIB and WBLS radio stations, claims he was canned by Inner City Broadcasting Corp. after rejecting repeated come-ons from Sutton’s divorced daughter, Cheryl Sutton.

Gillman, 57, says her unrequited passion for him was no secret within the company, contending in court papers that staffers there “are aware of and will testify to this.” Continue reading

3 Tips for Improving Your Wi-Fi

Technology

Many new notebook computers contain built-in Wi-Fi network adapters. These adapters are integrated circuit chips. Other wireless laptops utilize external network adapters such as PCMCIA cards or USB adapters. When using a notebook with public hotspots, a strong Wi-Fi signal is necessary to ensure successful Internet access and good connection speed. A wireless laptop with limited range is likely to suffer from slow or dropped Internet connections.

cell1It wasn’t all that long ago that most technology came in just two colours: black and grey. Palette options for laptops have been around for a while now, however, and a new partnership between Dell and nail-polish maker OPI promises to send the list of choices into overdrive.

Just in time for the holidays, Dell Mini, Inspiron and Studio laptops will soon be available in colours including “I’m Not Really a Waitress,” “Strawberry Margarita” and “Kyoto Pearl.” Continue reading

Dems, Wait for Shoe to Drop

Gov. Paterson

The White House wants him out of the race. Top New York Democrats expect him to step aside. And Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo and former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani are eyeing his job.

But there is one question the party has failed to grapple with: What if Gov. David A. Paterson refuses to go?

A number of Mr. Paterson’s friends and associates say he has reiterated in private conversations what he has insisted publicly — that he has no intention of abandoning the race for governor next year. Mr. Paterson, they say, has become only more resolute since the Obama administration’s disenchantment with him became public last month.

A Fast, Halloween How to

How To

hobartian By hobartian

Halloween has finally eclipsed Christmas and Thanksgiving as the most popular event during the year. Every store you visit, there are aisles and aisles of Halloween decorations, candy, costumes and accessories. It’s the only time of the year where it is acceptable and even desired to have gossamer spider webs draped over everything. Any other time of the year, we would be quick with our brooms and dust off those creepy, messy webs! It is easy to get caught up in the fury of the celebration and the quest for the perfect Halloween costume. Well, if you left it to the last minute and only a batman cape or a Jason mask is left, or you’ve suddenly been invited to a Halloween party and you need a way to create a cheap, easy costume fast, and don’t care about being overly tacky, here are some ideas that will fill the bill. You will hopefully get a laugh or a snicker and won’t feel out of place.
