Harlem Church Transforms into Condo

Early last year Harlem’s Church of the Master was demolished after being sold to a developer looking to build on the site of the 115-year-old church on West 122nd Street, to the outrage of at least one person. Now Harlem Bespoke88 Morningside (here’s the preview website). The brings us an update on what has risen in its place, a new condo project called blog isn’t crying over spilled milk, but wishes maybe things could have worked out a bit differently:

The 2009 Juried Faculty and Staff Show

The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) and its Visual Arts Department graciously invites the New York City community to experience the work of HSA’s faculty and staff through its first ever juried faculty and staff exhibition. Homemade begins with an Opening Reception, Thursday, December 3rd from 6pm to 8pm in The G-Space at 645 Saint Nicholas Avenue near West 141st Street .  The exhibition highlights the work of HSA’s teaching artists and those behind the scenes.  The jury will present Merit and Recognition awards during the opening reception.  The exhibition runs from December 3rd through January 12th.  Please note HSA will be closed from Wednesday, December 23rd through Monday, January 4th.

President Obama’s First State Dinner

The first state dinner of the Obama White House had it all: Oscar-winning entertainers, Hollywood moguls, a knockout guest chef and even a wardrobe malfunction. Traditional evening gowns vied with saris of vibrant colors Tuesday night at the high-glitz dinner in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. There were turbans and bindis as well as diamonds and brocades.

Rangel Is Frayed but Defiant

On the House floor during a debate over health care reform, he taunted a colleague who had been calling for his ouster. At a recent fund-raiser, he complained that the House speaker had made an end run around him and his committee. Confronted by a persistent conservative activist in a hallway, he let loose an expletive, telling the man to mind his own business.
