Obama’s Harlem Visit Now A Tour?

Travel Trip Obama NYC

Jeremiah Miller calls the time Barack Obama spent in New York “the lost years,” because that period from 1981 to 1985 is not as well-known as his roots in Hawaii or his recent years in Chicago. To fill in the gap, Miller offers a tour of Upper Manhattan called “Obama’s New York.”

The two-hour $25 walking tour includes stops at Columbia University, a Harlem subway station, and the street where the man who now sleeps in the White House once slept in an alley (and away we go).

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund held its 4th Annual Front Row fashion show October 25th at the Roseland Ballroom.  This year The View’s Sherri Shepherd held down  the hosting  duties.  Sherri lit up the room as soon as she stepped on the red carpet.  Also, in the building participating in the award ceremony was Thurgood Marshall’s son Jonathan Marshall.

More than 650 HBCU students attended the 4th Annual Front Row fashion show, and with the rest of the guests were excited about seeing this year’s honorees. Rounding out this year’s impressive group of people were Michael Jackson (represented by Marlon Jackson)- 2009 Avant-Garde Award,  F.I.T. President Dr. Joyce Brown-2009 Fashion Icon Award,  Supermodel Naomi Campbell-2009 Fashion Icon Award, Celebrity Make-Up Artist Sam Fine-2009 Fashion Icon Award and Celebrity Hair Stylist Andre Walker-2009 Fashion Icon Award.

Once the last honoree received his award, the fashion show was ready to go.  But first the musical duo Nuttin’ But Stringz, provided an unbelievable musical interlude.  These two brothers from Queens New York are remarkable violin players.  For those in the audience who missed Nuttin’ But Stringz recent appearances, on the Tavis Smiley Show and the Monique Show, was in awe.  After completing their performance, they received a standing ovation.

DJ Clark Kent cued up the music and the fashions were coming down the runway.  The 4th Annual Front Row fashion show featured designs by Amsale Aberra, Ana Segura, Byron Lars, Angela Dean, Frances Hendy, Kai Milla, Paco Rogiene, Montgomery, Nico & Adrian, Russell Simmons and George Davies (Walmart).

All of the fashions were received well by the audience, but the Montgomery line definitely stood out from the pack.  When the Fela Kuti music began playing you can see people had edged up in their seats. After designer, Montgomery Harris, walked down the runway the audience was on their feet.

It was another great night for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and all of the students the organization impacts.

The smart and talented HFR Advisory Board, made an excellent choice in selecting the night’s honoree: Fashion Icon Stephen Burrows.  SB (Soul Brother as he was introduced by friend Audrey Smaltz) a Fashion Institute of Technology graduate began his career in 1969.

His Boutique “Stephen Burrows World” was the go to fashion center for some of the biggest names in entertainment: Cher, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand.  Along his illustrious career, Mr. Burrows’ designs have received rave reviews in American, French and Japanese editions of Vogue, The New York Times, New York Magazine and Essence.

Bedbug Outbreak at Lenox Terraces

Exclusive

Over the last few days we have had two sources contact us regarding the Lenox Terraces on 135th Street and Lenox Avenue outbreak of bedbugs throughout their facilities.

The first source, who lives in the building, said that the Lenox Terraces have kept the out break silent because of the “stature” of the building in the community. The source, also said that the Lenox Terrace management did not want the outbreak to get into the news, saying that news of such a “prestigious nature” of it’s tenants (Rep. Charles Rangel, etc.,), word getting out would have a negative effect on the apartments.

The second source, who lives in the neighborhood mentioned that the bedbug breakout has been in effect at the Lenox Terraces for sometime and that the management has kept it silent for the same reasons mentioned above.
