Gospel Uptown Prays for a Miracle

A restaurant that was celebrated for bringing jobs to Harlem has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Gospel Uptown, a soul fusion restaurant on Seventh Avenue between West 125th and West 126th streets, brought more than 50 jobs to the neighborhood since it opened in June 2009, according to a February CNN interview with owner Joseph Holland. Continue reading

Jazzmobile’s ‘Best of the Best’ winner

Talented Brooklynite Pete McGuinness was named “Best of the Best” jazz vocalist at the Jazzmobile Vocal Competition on Monday. Beating out a field of more than 80 registered contestants, McGuinness won the competition with a scat-filled rendition of “Smile” by Charlie Chaplain at Harlem hot spot the Uptown Grand. Harlem H&M Reopens with $3 Dresses, Freebies, etc.,

Starting tomorrow at 10am, Harlem H&M will be celebrating the reopening of its newly remodeled 125th Street store after five months of renovations kept major portions of the location closed.

There’s nothing like browsing through a well-organized, fully-stocked shop on Day 1, let’s keep it real: we’re in it for the freebies. In a conversation with Nicole Christie (not Ritchie) this Tuesday on The Danny Tisdale Show she mentioned that the “The first 200 shoppers in line tomorrow morning will snag a free H&M T-shirt, and receive pass worth an amount ranging from $10 to $300 to spend in-store.” Continue reading
