The New Joe At Morningside Heights

Missing Harlem Teen Found Dead

Seventeen-year-old Gregory Willis Jr. had planned to go to college next year to become a music teacher. But on Sunday, four days after the teen went missing, Willis Jr.’s body was found facedown in snow not far from his Harlem home.

“He had already applied to colleges. He was a very smart kid, very polite and a gentleman who stayed to himself and even hung out with a good group of kids at school,” said Willis Jr.’s grieving aunt, Shante Price, on Monday. Continue reading

Harlem Stabber Killer Sought

Cops released this photo of the suspect in the fatal stabbing of Juan Benito at about 8:25 p.m. Friday in front of 1553 St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights.

Benito, 26, was found stabbed in the thigh and was DOA at Harlem Hospital; he lived at 562 West 173rd Street. Police described the suspect as a medium-built black man about 45 years old with a short salt-and-pepper beard. Continue reading

Woman Admits to Kidnapping Baby From Harlem Hospital

A woman accused of kidnapping a 3-week-old baby girl from Harlem Hospital 23 years ago has told the authorities that she did so because she had had several miscarriages and “was having difficulty having her own children,” according to a criminal complaint filed on Monday in Federal District Court in Manhattan. Harlem Barrier Beautification: Spring 2011 Open Call

This spring 2011, the New York City Department of Transportation is partnering again with the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit & New York Cares to paint selected barrier sites in Harlem.
