Caution Urged As Sewage Leaks Into Harlem River

Environmental officials urged swimmers and kayakers to stay out of New York City waters Thursday because a wastewater treatment plant disabled by fire was spewing millions of gallons of raw sewage into the Hudson River.

New York City Department of Environmental Protection officials urged people to avoid swimming, canoeing, and any other recreational activities involving direct contact with the water through at least Sunday in New York Harbor on the Hudson River, on the East River along Manhattan, and the Harlem River. Harlem Youth Slashes Man In Hamilton Heights

Regarding random street violence in the area, the below was in the New York Post, “NYPD Daily Blotter” section, July 23.

A thug slashed a man in the face in a Hamilton Heights bias attack, authorities said.

“You shouldn’t be around the neighborhood . . . you f—-t!” Taariq Roberts, 21, allegedly snarled at the victim at 5:15 p.m. on March 18 at the CCNY campus. Continue reading

Harlem Shero And Morris Houses Employee Sabrina Johnson Lifts Car To Save Boy

A New York City Housing Authority employee is a shero when on Wednesday night, July 6, she lifted the rear end of a parked car to save a young boy who was pinned underneath after being struck by a taxi cab. Sabrina Johnson, a NYCHA caretaker and resident at the Grant Houses, did what she felt she had to do. She looked to another woman walking by who also witnessed the incident, Dr. Sabrina Martin, and proceeded to aid the boy. Continue reading

Target Market News reports that sources at MSNBC say Harlem’s Rev. Al Sharpton is on the verge of being the network permanent anchor after three weeks of sitting in for host Cenk Uygur. The hiring of the prominent civil rights activist would be a plus for MSNBC, which has been criticized recently, along with CNN, for not having enough people of color in roles in front of and behind the camera.
