Katori Hall’s Journey From Harlem To The ‘Mountaintop’ (video)

At just 30 years old making her Broadway debut, playwright Katori Hall was not around to experience Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in real time, but she became immersed in his legacy growing up in Memphis where he spent the last days of his life.

Her new play Mountaintop with Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett pays tribute to Dr. King’s last public appearance at Mason Temple in Memphis where he delivered his historic “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech. Continue reading

How To Wear A Scarf This Winter In Harlem (video)

The first known scarf in history according to Affordable Scarves was donned by ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti as a headdress in 1350 BC.

Since then, scarves have been used as sweat clothes, military rank indicators and now often for fashion purposes. Both men and women can look fashionable in scarves walking along 125th Street or Lexington Avenue, though mens scarf styles tend to be more understated and refined rather than bright and flowing.

NYPD Holds Gun Buyback Events In Harlem

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. and the New York City Police Department teamed up for a gun buyback program in Harlem Saturday.

They sponsored a “cash for guns” program at two Harlem churches.
